About the Department

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate clerical work involving the receipt of taxes and fees and the preparation and/ or maintenance of fiscal or related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Position Duties

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
Collecting, receipting and accounting for various revenues received; assisting citizens, attorneys, realtors and others with collection information and advice.
The following functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.  The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Collects, receipts and accounts for various revenues and fees collected daily.
Enters a variety of data related to collections into computer system.
Assists citizens paying taxes, assessments and fees.
Gathers, assembles, tabulates, checks and files financial data.
Post, checks, balances and adjusts routine financial data.
Accounts for checks and cash received daily and balances against receipts; runs end-of-day and month reports; prepares and makes bank deposits.
Files various fiscal transition documents
Performs a variety of office assistance tasks such as typing, filing and answering telephone.
Collates, sorts and complies fiscal data in accordance with procedures.
Operates typewriter, calculator, computer and other standard office equipment incident to maintaining records.
Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and a minimum of 1 year experience in general office preferably in a tax related field.

Other Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures; ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skill to use a variety of office machines, types and data entry ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
