SUMMARY:  The Design + Innovation Lab Coordinator plays a vital role in the operations and culture of the Design + Innovation Lab at Greenhill School. This position is ideal for a hands-on problem solver with strong organizational skills and a passion for creating safe, functional, and inspiring maker environments. The Lab Coordinator is responsible for maintaining equipment, managing supplies, supporting students and faculty projects, ensuring lab safety, and assisting with programmatic events throughout the year.  

  

This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required. 

     

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Lab Operations & Maintenance 

  • Learn to use and maintain all lab machines, equipment, and tools, including but not limited to 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS), laser cutters, mills, lathes, drill press, band saw, belt sander, chop saw, soldering stations, vacuum former, etc. 
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensure all systems are up to date. 
  • Keep a clean and organized workspace for students, staff, and guests. 
  • Repair and replace tools and machines as needed. 
  • Monitor and refill consumables (filament, plywood, SLA resin, SLS powder, electronics, fasteners, etc.). 
  • Maintain clean and functional support systems like IPA cleaning tanks, SLS de-caking station, etc. 

Purchasing & Inventory 

  • Track, order, and restock materials and supplies needed for instruction, projects, and general lab use. 
  • Complete monthly purchase reconciliations and manage lab inventory systems. 

Project & Event Support 

  • Assist faculty with material kitting for lessons. 
  • Support school events, including admissions nights and parent workshops, through preparation and custom builds. 
  • Build awards, gifts, and other physical deliverables for special events and presentations. 

Student & Faculty Support 

  • Train and support students and faculty on safe and effective use of lab tools. 
  • Provide ongoing project support, especially during peak build times. 
  • Collaborate with faculty during class sessions and open lab hours. 

Safety & Access Management 

  • Administer the RFID access system, including card creation and permission updates. 
  • Run safety training and equipment onboarding sessions for students and faculty. 
  • Track and manage student access levels to ensure safe operation of machinery. 

Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a STEM field, industrial design, manufacturing, or equivalent hands-on experience. 
  • Familiarity with shop tools and maker technologies (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC, machine and hand tools, soldering). 
  • Comfort troubleshooting mechanical and digital tools. 
  • Passion for working with students in a creative, project-based learning environment. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time across multiple ongoing tasks. 
  • Growth mindset and willingness to learn new systems, tools, and technologies. 
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs and work safely with machinery and hand tools..
