Job Title:  Mix and Blend Operator

Department:                  Production

Classification:               On-site, hourly position

Reports to:                    Production Supervisor/Production Manager

Shift Responsibilities:  All shifts

Job Summary

The Mix and Blend Operator is responsible for accurate staging, weighing, and consumption of ingredients in accordance with production schedules and formulations. This role requires strict adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory guidelines while operating within a food-grade manufacturing environment. The operator will use an ERP system to track and document material usage and is responsible for operating a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to control product transfers throughout the facility.  This position shares responsibility for maintaining Suntado’s food safety, quality and legality program under the BRC/GFSI/PCQI guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stage, weigh, and consume raw materials according to production formulations using ERP systems
  • Accurately document all batching information, including start and end times, ingredient names, lot numbers, quantities used, and volume transferred
  • Operate HMI systems to route materials between processing and storage systems
  • Identify and differentiate between organic and non-organic materials, ensuring proper handling to prevent cross-contamination
  • Conduct required rinses and washes to maintain product integrity during transitions between different product types
  • Train and mentor new employees on proper procedures and safety/quality standards
  • Clean, sanitize, and inspect equipment, blending tanks, transfer lines, and workspaces to ensure compliance with food safety requirements
  • Learn and follow PMO (Pasteurized Milk Ordinance) guidelines and production requirements specific to milk and dairy products
  • Monitor equipment for malfunctions or abnormalities and report issues as needed
  • Complete production and quality assurance documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all plant safety policies
  • Participate in safety and food safety training programs; follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
  • Communicate clearly with coworkers, supervisors, and support teams
  • Follow all company policies related to attendance, sanitation, quality, and safety
  • Other duties as assigned

 Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in food, dairy, or beverage manufacturing preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow batch sheets and recipes
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and basic computer operation
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and follow food safety and regulatory systems including HACCP, GMPs, SQF, and PMO

 Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) well to all levels throughout the plant.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to maintain legible records in accordance with company standards.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend and climb; use hands feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. repeatedly for periods of up to one hour.   Stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout a 12-hour shift in a fast-paced production environment.
