The Assistant Group Leader supports the Group Leader in supervising and engaging children in before/after school and summer programs. This role assists with the safe implementation of activities, maintains a positive and supportive environment, and fosters relationships with children and staff. Assistant Group Leaders do not independently hold ratio; they work alongside a Group Leader and provide additional support to program operations.

Responsibilities:- Activity Support:
- Assist Group Leader in implementing program activities.
- Engage children in activities while ensuring they are age-appropriate and safe.
- Provide additional support to enhance participation and enjoyment.
- Supervision and Safety:
- Support the Group Leader in maintaining a safe and positive environment.
- Assist in supervising children; will not be counted in ratio independently.
- Follow program rules and procedures consistently.
- Participant Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with children in the group.
- Encourage participation and provide support as directed by the Group Leader.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate observations or concerns to the Group Leader or Program Coordinator.
- Work as part of a team to ensure cohesive program delivery.
- Represent the YMCA positively at all times.
- Resource Management:
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and use of program supplies and equipment.
- Handle materials carefully and notify staff when items need replenishment.
- Training and Development:
- Participate in required staff training, including BSAC and YMCA onboarding.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and development opportunities.
Qualifications:- Education and Experience:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- BSAC training will be provided by the YMCA
- Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of child development principles.
- Familiarity with safety and behavior management practices.
- Awareness of age-appropriate recreational and educational activities.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow directions and support activity implementation.
- Dependability and willingness to learn new skills.
- Abilities:
- Ability to assist in supervising children in a safe and positive environment.
- Ability to adapt to varying needs of children and staff direction.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
