ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year according to current administrative salary schedule, 240 contract days.
QUALIFICATIONS:
New Mexico Administrative Licensure.
Three years of experience in an administrative position preferred.
Possess or able to obtain a commercial driver’s license. (CDL)
REPORTS TO:
Director of Transportation
JOB SUMMARY:
To assist the Director of Transportation in providing students safe and efficient transportation, and to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district’s schools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assist to direct and evaluate transportation contractors, bus drivers and transportation office
· Assist in the management and oversight of student discipline on buses, as well as the handling and supervision of bus referrals
· Assist to oversee the preparation of maps and time schedules for all bus routes.
· Assist to supervise the implementation of the computerized bus routing program.
· Assist to oversee the transportation budget.
· Assist to prepare and submit documentation for assessment of department to various departments and state agencies.
· Assist to oversee surveys of bus routes and loading zones and report hazardous conditions to state
· Assist to supervise maintenance of extra-curricular and field trip records.
· Assist to plan and set up in-service training programs.
· Assist to attend any meetings that would be for the betterment of transporting students to and from
· Assist to supervise the accuracy of distance measurement from pupil’s home to school in order to verify qualification for transportation. Assist to plan and manage the interview process and screen driver applicants prior to assignment for driving.
· Assist to carryout local and state board policies as stated in the administrative handbook and Pupil Transportation Manual.
· Assist to promote school visitation and keep an open line of communication with school
· Assist to provide information to members of staff, media as directed, when requested information relates to the function of the Transportation department.
· Assist to conduct annual survey of bus requirements and make recommendations to administration for the purpose of new buses and equipment.
· Assist in responsibility for perpetual inventory of all areas of the department. Perform other duties as assigned.

Machines, Tools, and Equipment
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, multi-media equipment including current technology as needed. (Various machines and equipment including but not limited to computer, iPad, printer, scanner, copier, etc.)

Knowledge of universal hygiene precaution (blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc.)

· Adaptability to perform required tasks in a complex office operation with multiple demands from several sources.
· Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, statements, etc.
· Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, statements, etc. using prescribed formats.
· Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
· Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including insurance, personnel and governmental terminology.
· Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
Physical Requirements
Walking, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling and squatting, climbing stairs, speaking and listening, reaching with hands and arms, having full mobility of fingers/hands to finger, handle or feel, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, carrying, lifting, and moving up to 25 pounds and/or moving light furniture may be required.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
1. Maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions.
2. Some districtwide and statewide travel.
3. Occasional and prolonged and irregular working hours.
Work Environment
Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. May make site visits as needed. May work under stressful conditions on occasion.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel.
