Description
The Climbing School (CS) Instructor position at Momentum is an exciting, dynamic position that covers the adult instructional needs at Momentum Climbing Gyms. It requires knowledge of gym operations, technical climbing skills, and exceptional interpersonal communication.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administration
- Instruct regularly occurring classes, personal instruction lessons, & group events as needed
- Aid in building and maintaining Climbing School enrollment
- Collaborate with Momentum managers to facilitate program development
- Assist with training and development of other employees on Climbing School products and classes
- Develop program ownership among instructors to continually grow positive program culture
- Attend ongoing training and staff meetings as needed
Customer Service and Facility Obligations
- Ensure positive customer service experience to all participants or onlookers
- Respond in a timely manner to all customer inquiries or other service issues
- Well versed knowledge of all climbing school offerings - price, times, and dates and content
- Ability to put immediate needs of participants first at all times
- Ability to command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, recognize unsafe conditions, and discuss any concerns with fellow coaches and participants in a professional manner

- Hourly Compensation DOE ($20-25 starting)

Requirements
Hours and Availability
- 2-6 hours per week with the possibility of more with added personal instruction
- Preferred as an adjunct to other gym duties (Operation staff, youth programs, routesetting etc.)
- Weekends and evenings required, potentially on short notice
Experience, Skills, and Certifications
- Preferred at least 5 years climbing experience and show a strong enthusiasm for climbing
- Experience in the disciplines of bouldering, sport climbing, and traditional climbing
- Preferred 5.12 sport climbing, V7 bouldering, traditional experience
- Experience in customer service
- Experience with formal instruction
- Individuals must be highly organized and able to maintain complex personal schedules
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in person, through email and phone
- Basic computer skills; including familiarity with Google Drive
- Willing to respond to unexpected tasks with a positive attitude
Environmental and Physical Demands
- Comfortable working in a loud, fast-paced environment on a regular basis
- Comfortable speaking in front of and providing instruction to large groups
- Be comfortable working at height, moving up and down a climbing wall
- Continuously stand and walk on unstable and uneven surfaces for long periods of time
- Ability to demonstrate climbing skills as need. Techniques and hard skills such as lead belaying
- Able to repeatedly lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs of weight on a regular basis
- Able to balance, kneel, pull, push, and grasp objects as needed
- Have the visual acuity to assess details
