Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The individual shall possess a BS Degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
MS Degree preferred.
ABOUT THE JOB!
The Systems Engineer works closely with Business Development, Product and Program Management and Engineering leaders to define customer needs and functional requirements throughout the project development cycle. The Systems Engineer is responsible for the realization and deployment of successful systems using a structured process, mapping user specifications to design requirements, documenting deliverables and validating compliance. In addition, the Systems Engineer considers business and the technical needs with the goal of providing a quality product that is traceable to defined user requirements to achieve organization and project objectives. The Systems Engineer is responsible for leading and influencing technical staff and projects and provides guidance to cross-functional departments and other engineers within the department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Requirements Traceability & Verification, Product Data Management (PDM), Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) and business (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, database, project management and electronic mail) applications.
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present as well as lead.
- Ability to develop creative solutions to problems while managing multiple issues at the same time.
- Possess a logical and disciplined approach when determining root cause and issue resolution.
- Be detail oriented, self-motivated, results-driven and have strong interpersonal and team skills.
- Ability to read and understand Engineering Drawings, Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) and Operator Maintenance Manuals (OMM).
- Be mechanically inclined, have technical, practical, and scientific knowledge involved in the design and/or control of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize daily activities, and make technical decisions.
- Familiarity with AS9100 procedures for Design Reviews, Inputs/Outputs, and New Product Introduction stages and gates to ensure meeting customer, product, and company contractual requirements performance expectations and return on investment.
- Ability to plan, manage and report on various test events.
Requirements
Voice of the Customer
- Serve as the technical liaison between internal and external customers and interact independently with customers on all technical matters.
- Assist with medium to major proposal development efforts for new Research and Development projects and programs.
- Assist in preparation and presentation of program material for internal and customer design reviews and meetings.
Systems Engineering
- Manage system requirements and define and characterize systems and subsystems, and the interactions among them.
- Participate in the research that tests, analyzes, and evaluates the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, materials, systems, and subsystems.
- Interface with the product user community, teaming partners, subcontractors, project engineers, designers, manufacturing, and other program personnel to provide traceability to requirements and assure compliance.
- Define the behavior of and interaction among system components and develop integration plans, interface management and control plans, and test plans to translate customer requirements into cost effective design specifications.
- Proactively address engineering problems at the system level, rather than at the task level.
- Articulate possible solutions to problems in the form of engineering or systems specifications and quantify impact in terms of cost, time, dependencies, side-effects, and develop proposals and implement solutions.
Test Equipment
- Responsible for the development and fabrication of custom test apparatus and fixtures
- Responsible for identifying, sourcing and ensuring equipment availability for test event.
- Collaborate with design engineers to understand purpose of internal development test apparatus.
Test Planning
- Develop detailed test plans based on performance requirements and verification methodology.
- Collaborate with government sponsors in selecting appropriate test facility for each verification test.
- Work closely with development team to determine and drive product availability for testing.
- Collaborate with test facilities for equipment & resource availability to schedule test events.
Test reporting
- Analyze and interpret test data using appropriate engineering / physiological / statistical techniques.
- Perform and document non-test activities including analyses, inspections or demonstrations.
- Write clear and concise engineering reports to document component and product test results.
- Review and collaborate test reporting from external test facilities.
- Compile verification analyses, inspections, demonstrations and test reports into comprehensive qualification test reports (QTR)
Leadership
- Provide technical direction and leadership to project team members
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineering staff
Prototype Development Testing
- Participate in the design, development, integration, test, operation, maintenance, and repair efforts to ensure that product is functioning according to specifications.
Configuration Management
- Ensure the requirements are maintained through the program and product lifecycle.
- Support failure analysis investigations, reviews, and the evaluation of design deficiencies; and facilitate modification or retrofit to eliminate those design deficiencies.
Continuous Improvement
- Provide and execute approved continuous improvement ideas in the engineering department.
- Assist in the development and training of standard practices and procedures.
Other
- Perform all assigned tasks in accordance with established company ISO 9001/AS 9100 procedures and work instructions.
- Complete other duties as directed by management.
SUPERVISION:
Position requires providing direction, influence, and leadership to cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization across multiple sites without direct-line management reporting relationships.
