POSITION OVERVIEW
Administer, oversee, and direct activities of the Environmental Department to ensure the operational unit complies with environmental federal, state, and local laws, administrative regulations, codes, and permits. Under the direction of the operational unit manager, the Environmental Manager will direct, conduct, and communicate the results of environmental inspections, tests, analysis, and observations. The Environmental Manager must have a strong aptitude for evaluating results of collected data and observations and communicate them to the management team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide support to the operation to ensure compliance with EPA, US Army Corps of Engineers, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA) State, Local and Company environmental regulations.
- Advise upper management on environmental requirements for all proposed projects.
- Manage all permitting requirements including the preparation of permit applications and modification of existing permits.
- Negotiate terms of environmental permits with government regulators.
- Supervise all field monitoring and data analysis for compliance reporting and technical documents.
- Develop, organize, implement, and coordinate compliance programs.
- Prepare expense and capital expenditure forecasts.
- Administer professional services and construction contracts relating to environmental projects.
- Participate in Environmental Compliance and Environmental Management System (EMS) Audits.
- Provide consultant supervision and invoice approval, and environmental oversight and support for other departments.
- Meet with government regulators during permit negotiations, onsite inspections, and subcommittee meetings.
- Participate in meetings at AMA and at other organizations and participate in regulatory development and analysis projects.
- Develop comments on plans, regulations, permits, and technical documents on various subjects including ESA and Land Management.
- Monitor chemical products utilized on site.
- Manage the Drinking Water System for compliance related activities including sampling, writing plans, and ordering parts and chemicals, as necessary.
- Develop comments on plans, regulations, permits, and technical documents on various subjects including Endangered Species Act (ESA) and land management.
- Implement, organize, and execute community involvement projects.
- Prepare required environmental and emergency response plans.
- Prepare environmental training for site employees
- Participate in strategic planning for long-term operations mining.
- Coordinate land use contracts, rights-of-way, and leases associated with the operational unit properties.
- Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
- Provide support to management in forecasting capital and expense annual budgets.
- Manage activities of Environmental Department staff.
- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
