The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The Harris Center") is on the hunt for a dedicated Grant Accountant II. The candidate selected will be Responsible for grant accounting, billing, and analysis to ensure fiscal compliance with grant-funded programs and revenue[1]generating contracts. Works extensively with program managers who provide oversight to grant-funded activities and with representatives from funding agencies. Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular funding stream. Must be able to rely on professional judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.
Your Role in Action:
- Monitors monthly activity on grants to ensure proper account coding and proper use of funds under grant terms.
- Maintains grant files, including contracts, amendments, and closeouts for use in official audit preparation.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and closeout billings as needed for each grant, using various formats as defined by the funding agency, and meeting required deadlines.
- Prepares journal entries as needed to general ledger for proper grant maintenance.
- Prepares audit work papers for independent audit.
- Performs reconciliations of accounts receivable and other general ledger accounts.
- Works with program managers to obtain supporting documentation required for invoice submissions.
- Researches billing or expenditure discrepancies.
- Researches reporting and expenditure eligibility requirements for each granting agency as they apply to each grant received.
- Responds to inquiries from other employees and various granting agencies by telephone or in writing.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President/Controller from time to time.
- Tracks the status of grant invoices produced and collected.
- Communicates effectively with internal and external clients regarding invoice status.
- Collaborates with other team members to ensure timely and accurate submission of invoices and reports to funders.
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field from accredited four-year college or university.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA eligible is preferred.
Experience:
- Requires a minimum of 3-5 years progressive experience in accounting, with minimum of 1 year grant reporting experience or 2 years public accounting experience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Advanced Excel Skills (pivot tables, V-lookups, etc.)
- Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Maintain confidentiality when working with payroll data.
- Utilize sound judgment and decision-making skills, solve problems quickly and effectively, meet multiple deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy; detail oriented.
- Provide high level of customer service and establish/maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
- Knowledge of and experience with accounting software
