Your Role:
As a Digital Innovation Strategist in the Connected Lab Group, you will play a key role in supporting the digital transformation of R&D within the Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your scientific expertise and digital knowledge to real-world challenges in Life Science R&D. You will contribute to the development and implementation of the Digital ARC (Advanced Research Center) and Connected Lab strategy and roadmap execution, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive the digital and data transformation in the LS innovation value stream.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Support and Implementation:
- Assist in the development and refinement of the Digital ARC and Connected Lab strategy, aligning with both Life Science overall strategy and digital strategy.
- Support the implementation of digital initiatives across R&D groups within Life Science, focusing on the Innovation Value Stream priorities.
- Collaborate with multiple functions (IT, OT, R&D teams, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business Development) to support the integration of digital strategies.
Digital Transformation Support:
- Contribute to digital literacy efforts within R&D, helping to promote the adoption of new tools, processes, and methodologies.
- Assist in developing and delivering training programs and workshops to foster a digitally driven mindset.
- Support the planning and execution of digital strategies for R&D, with a focus on enhancing productivity and innovation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Participate in cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between R&D and other departments (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Product Management, Business Development) on digital initiatives.
- Work with IT and OT teams to support the implementation of technology platforms, helping to define functional requirements and priorities.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
- Apply advanced analytics, AI, and digital tools to provide digital enablement in support of innovation in core offerings.
- Assist in analyzing data-driven insights and contribute to the refinement of digital solutions.
- Support the evaluation of external technology providers and potential partnerships.
Project Support:
- Assist in project planning and resource allocation for digital initiatives.
- Help track project progress and contribute to reporting on digital transformation efforts.
- Develop and monitor impact of digital initiatives by defining and tracking KPIs.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Conduct data analysis to support decision-making and strategy development.
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations for senior leadership on the progress of digital initiatives.
Research and Innovation:
- Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in Life Science R&D and digital transformation.
- Contribute innovative ideas for improving R&D processes through digital solutions.
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in relevant fields such as Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
- At least 1 year of postdoctoral or industry experience in life sciences, with exposure to R&D processes and digital technologies.
- Strong understanding of and interest in cutting-edge technologies such as AI, machine learning, and data analytics, particularly as applied to life sciences R&D.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into practical digital solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the life sciences industry is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or strong interest in digital transformation within scientific environments.
- Proficiency in bioinformatics and computational biology.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
- International experience or demonstrated ability to work effectively across cultures.
- Interest in general management (e.g. budgeting, team leadership etc.) and willingness to learn and apply for professional development.

This position is remote flexible or can be based in our Burlington, MA facility.
Pay Range for this position: $101,500 – $142,200
Our ranges are derived from several sources, and largely reliant on relevant industry market data. Should we decide to make an offer, we will consider several factors, including but not limited to your location, skills, experience, career level, and other job-related factors.
