Position Summary:
The Firefighter Division Chief provides leadership, direction, and general administrative oversight to the Fire Department and employees responsible for fire protection and prevention and "All Hazards" disaster preparedness for the host site that he/she is assigned to. Provides leadership and participates in cooperative relationships and initiatives for both Vallen and the host site. Work involves significant engagement and public involvement with plant management as well as local fire, EMS, and public safety agencies. Works independently under general guidance from the Vallen Fire Chief or designee to ensure coordination of objectives and priorities of Vallen Safety Services and that of the host site. Supervises staff, directly or through assigned Assistant Fire Chief.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
•Plans, organizes, directs, controls, and evaluates the work of the Division Fire Department.
•Oversees all aspects of fire suppression, training, administration, emergency medical services, All Hazards disaster preparedness, and the Inspecting Testing and Maintenance schedule.
•Oversees the management of the day-to-day administration of the Department, including departmental structure and staffing, field operations, incident management, employee safety, quality control, records, and reporting.
•Develops and maintains a workforce committed to, and with highly developed competencies in, customer service, results orientation, and teamwork.
•Establishes rules for the Department that meet local applicable standards and regulations for fire/EMS/Emergency Management services.
•Work is performed primarily in an office setting subject to frequent interruptions and includes remaining stationary for extended periods of time.
•May be exposed to highly stressful situations and individuals who are irate or hostile.
•Flexibility to work evening and weekend hours and occasional overnight travel to conferences and training sessions required.
•Also involves working in the field to coordinate firefighting and emergency service activities as necessary.
•This position requires minimal to moderate physical exertion requirements.
•Provides for ongoing research into new approaches, technologies, and trends, and recommends.
•Subject to recall for fire or incident response as necessary. This includes responding at short notice for critical events such as storms, natural disasters, or other emergencies that may arise outside of regular scheduled hours. Maintaining staffing during these events is essential to ensure operational safety or to meet customer requests for increased personnel.
