About the Department

This is a 12-month Special Duty Assignment open to current FMD employees only.

The Department of Executive Services – Facilities Management Division (FMD) is searching for a seasoned professional to provide senior leadership level direction to multiple key division lines of business. This role serves as a key member of the Director’s Office team and the FMD Senior Leadership team.   This is a 12-month Special Duty Assignment open to current FMD employees only.

This role involves daily interaction with the organization at all levels as well as external contacts. Successful candidates for this role will be self-starters who have excellent supervision, program direction, interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail, and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 

Who We Are:
Through a workforce of over 350 dedicated employees, FMD operates and manages the County's capital assets by developing and maintaining cost-conscious, sustainable, high-quality facilities, and environments. This division maintains approximately 3 million square feet in facilities where King County provides regional services, including the King County Courthouse and District Courts, Maleng Regional Justice Center, King County Administration Building, King County Animal Shelter, and several Public Health facilities.

Position Duties

  • Manage the transition and onboarding of the FMD Division Director and Executive Assistant.
  • Develop and guide implementation of updated division-wide online resources including social media, SharePoint, Teams, Intranet, and Internet sites.
  • Oversee division-wide strategic planning efforts including incorporating input from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Co-lead the development and implementation of division-wide continuous improvement efforts including updating policies and procedures.
  • Lead the development and implementation of performance management systems to guide decision making including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Support special project assignments to ensure collaboration with internal and external project partners to meet project deliverables and expectations.
  • Supervise strategic business planning, special projects, and communications staff.
  • Participate in Management and Senior Leadership teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of strategic business planning techniques, principles and practices
  • Advanced knowledge of Facilities industry-related issues and planning principles
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in financial planning and quantitative performance analysis for a public agency with multiple and diverse services
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and principles
  • Knowledge of automated data analysis methods, models and systems
  • Skill in making presentations and convincing others to initiate action(s)
  • Skill in synthesizing information and making recommendations within and outside of established policies and procedures
  • Skills in leadership and in supervising multidisciplinary staff 
  • Skill in managing highly visible and politically sensitive projects
  • Knowledge of legislative processes
  • Skill in making timely and quality decisions
  • Skill in dealing with circumstances outside and in the absence of established policies and/or procedures and being able to facilitate decisions within the organization to get results while maintaining strong customer focus
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Skill in working effectively with diverse individuals and populations
  • Ability to work on a number of projects/tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to develop a collaborative and highly effective team environment
  • Skill in using current office software programs including word processing, spreadsheet, database and email 


Other Qualifications

This position is hybrid, requiring on-site presence at least 3-days per week and at other times as needed by the Director at the King County, Chinook Building.
