Job Description:

Avery Dennison Identification Solutions group is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our team in Miamisburg, Ohio. This role reports to the Band Molding Operations department supervisor and will be integral to maintaining and improving our tooling for the casting process.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a variety of machinery, including precision grinding, lathe, Bridgeport, and surface grinding equipment.
  • Perform toolmaking within tight tolerances for a variety of components, including engraving blocks and engravings, shims, arbors, and knives.
  • Execute mold maintenance, including repairs and ensuring flatness.
  • Utilize programming knowledge for Haas Automation tooling software.
  • Oversee an outsourced coating process for tooling.
  • Collaborate with operators and engineering on equipment improvements and provide replacement parts to improve performance for equipment such as winders, mixers, and presses.
  • Machining of parts for printer assembly jobs, as needed.
  • Attend daily Tier meetings.
  • Perform effective root cause problem-solving for tooling and machine performance issues.
  • Maintain organization of tool & part drawings and follow ISO standard document control procedures.
  • Interact with the Maintenance and Engineering team to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Identify safety issues, support safety initiatives, and recommend and implement effective solutions.
  • Provide support for technology upgrade projects.
  • Conduct training for employees on proper tool alignment and care.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and process improvements.
  • Perform basic Oracle transactions as required.
  • May be required to work overtime.
Qualifications:
  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a machine shop.
  • Apprenticeship or vocational training preferred.
  • Must be able to hold tight grinding tolerances. ( +- .0005)
  • Must be able to operate MasterCam for engraving block characters.
  • Knowledge of how to operate HAAS OM-1 Vertical Mill, Milling Machine, Vertical Mill, Shear, Hydraulic Surface Grinder, Optical Comparator, Surface Grinder, Horizontal Lathe, and Contour Band Saw.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols.
  • Self-directed, self-starter.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on ability to work through symptoms and get to root cause.
  • Experience in troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
