We are seeking a hands-on Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. This newly created role will be pivotal in bringing all accounting functions in-house, providing the President and leadership team with timely, accurate financial data to guide strategic decisions. The Controller manages all aspects of the company’s financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance. This hands-on role is ideal for a professional comfortable managing the complete accounting cycle independently, with support from general administrative and operational staff. The Controller will work closely with leadership to support financial planning and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain accurate forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management processes.
  • Reconcile accounts and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
  • Partner with the external CPA firm on tax preparation, audits, and year-end close.
  • Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership to support strategic planning.
  • Evaluate and implement accounting systems, processes, and controls to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee payment processing.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and support treasury functions.
  • Leads and directs the work of operational or administrative staff for routine tasks (e.g., data entry, document management).
  • Recommend and implement improvements in systems and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred but not required).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or controller-level responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and corporate financial procedures.
  • Experience in a small to mid-sized company environment, ideally within professional services or a related industry.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
