About the Department

Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. 


We are looking for Material Suppliers (Electrical) Assigned Crew Support to join the Transmission & Distribution Operations Division. Material Suppliers assist City Light electrical crews by ordering and loading necessary tools, supplies and equipment of assigned project activities and assembling parts and equipment, salvaging materials, and equipment. These positions will report to the Electrical Construction & Maintenance Supervisors.

Position Duties

  • Order and load necessary tools, supplies and equipment of assigned project activities
  • Assemble parts and equipment
  • Salvage materials and equipment
  • Drive and operate heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and equipment that may require a Class A Commercial Driver License to multiple locations
  • Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations to include WAC Chapter 45
  • Acquire and maintain all required certifications
  • Attend and participate in various meetings, both in and out of work groups
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully; both orally and in writing
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: 

Experience: Two years' experience in electrical utility construction, maintenance, or operation work or stocking/delivering materials and equipment associated with the construction of overhead or underground electrical systems, or related experience.
  
Working Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift objects exceeding 50 lbs.
  • Stand, walk, and bend for extended periods
  • Work out doors in all weather conditions
  • Be on call for emergency situations
  • Work around high voltage equipment, at construction sites, and in heavy traffic
  • Work under and near energized lines or equipment


Certification/License: State of Washington Driver License with Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A endorsement.

  • Understand and supports the importance of utilizing appropriate methods and tools to document work activities
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
  • Ability to work independently and comfortably in a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere Self-starter
  • Agent for change – willing and able to learn new work processes and follow SCL policies/codes
  • Current Washington State Traffic Control Flagging card. Current Industrial First Air card Knowledge of Construction Standards and Stock Catalog Usage
  • Electrical Worker's Safety Rules training

The full salary range for this position is hourly rate $48.25 to hourly rate $48.25.
