Title: Parent Involvement Assistant (Early Childhood Regional Center) 

Department: Early Childhood Education 

This is a full-time 10-month, PFT represented position. The salary grade is 030 which starts at $27,574 for new PFT members

Job Summary 

Provides assistance to families enrolled in the preschool programs under Early Childhood  Education. Assists with organizing, advising and promoting active participation through  volunteer service of parents, guardians and community volunteers in the program. Assists  with training activities for parents to enhance skills and to act as a liaison and advocate  between administration and parents. Advises and prepares parents for active participation  in the program by conducting parent orientation, workshops as well as recruiting parent  volunteers in the classroom and other related program content areas. 

Essential Functions 

For the Early Childhood Regional Center Specialty 

• Schedule families for screenings and workshops. 

• Assists with documenting parent participation. 

• Assist in fostering relationships with community organizations.

• Assist in community outreach and communication. 

• Assists in the coordination and implementation of a parent involvement center; actively  recruits parents; provides orientation for parent groups; participates in the planning and  orientation of training seminars and conferences for parents. 

• Assists the program staff in conducting workshops and professional development for  parents and staff in parent involvement techniques to ensure parent participation in all  programs as required. 

• Attends and participates in staff and professional development sessions. 


Minimum Requirements 

• High school diploma or equivalent. 

• Documented volunteer experience within the last three years within either of the Early  Childhood programs which includes Prekindergarten Head Start, Bright Futures,  Comprehensive Early Learning Centers or its contractual Child Care partners. 

For the Early Childhood Regional Center Specialty 

• High school diploma or equivalent. 

• Three years of paid work experience within an Early Childhood or community based setting  working with parents or families. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

Knowledge of: 

  • the methods, practices and techniques used in parent involvement outreach. 

  • the current economic and social problems experienced by urban families

Ability to: 

  • recruit parents and community volunteers and effectively involve them in the  program. 

  • plan, organize and assist in conducting workshops and meetings. 

  • learn and enhance knowledge of available community resources. 

  • communicate effectively, both orally an in writing. 

  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.
