The Longshoreman (General Laborer) is responsible for the loading, unloading, moving or handling of cargo; (container, bulk, breakbulk, shipping containers, oil barrels, gear, or any other materials / cargo) into, in, on, or out of any vessel and/or train in a responsible, safe and efficient manner. The Longshoreman may preform other duties as instructed and/or assigned by the Gang Foreman.
Calificaciones:What you will need:
- Prior experience as a longshoreman or with cargo rigging (lashing/strapping) in a marine terminal or any of the following experience: baggage handling, package handling, manual loading and unloading cargo from trucks, trailers or railcars.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills (Spanish is a plus).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and/or State ID.
- Must have an active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card.
- Dependable & reliable mode of transportation to and from work.
- The ability and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Must be willing to travel, as needed, to other locations within Texas (Houston & Brownsville)
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Employee is required to perform an abundance of physical manual labor.
- Must be able to work at heights, within enclosed/confined spaces, in noisy environments with moving equipment and in adverse climatic conditions.
- The employee is constantly required to stand, reach forward, balance, handle objects, operate controls and perform simple and firm hand grasping, including twisting and pinching.
- The employee is frequently required to squat, stoop, crouch, kneel, and reach overhead.
- The employee must frequently pull up to 130 pounds, push, pull and lift up to 110 pounds and carry up to 55 pounds.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit (while being lifted in a basket), crawl, grasp, and exercise eye-hand coordination, and exercise repetitive wrist motion.
- The employee is required to talk and hear.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
What you will do:
- Reports to Gang Foreman.
- Prior Longshoreman experience preferred, but not required.
- Climbing frames of wind blades up to 150ft.
- Removing chains / binders on vessel (20 – 30lbs) and place in boxes.
- Lifting cable wires (rigging) 20 – 60lbs.
- Lifting shackles, hooks, gear (25 – 50lbs.)
- Climbing trucks/blade frames to unhook on dock.
- Various climbing positions on project cargo.
- Placing and removing dunnage (20 – 50lbs.)
- When handling Vestas blades, removing double twist locks (50+ lbs)
- Work with impact gun to remove or tighten bolts and nuts on blade frames.
- Working outside in the elements ( Hot, cold, raining) stand down only on heavy rain and lightning .
- Hooking up rigging to equipment (20lbs to 50lbs)
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
