Instructional Aide I Job Description Reports to: Instructor and/or administrator General Description: To assist the teacher to achieve teaching objectives by working with individual students, small groups of students. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and experience in working with children Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed Satisfactory completion of the District employee’s minimum competency test and/or equivalent Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate Duties and Responsibilities: Administers scores and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students (within the legal limits) Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interest and abilities Assignment may include General Education and or Special Education as needs arise Guides independent study, enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher Checks notebooks, supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud and storytelling Assist teachers with running records Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student Intervention- one on one mentor Participates in in-service training as assigned by the superintendent Understanding and/or working knowledge of school technology Performs other related duties as required Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all employees Yard duty and cafeteria monitoring
