Job Title: PK Aide (PK–2nd Grade)
Reports To: Campus Principal and Reading Interventionist
Location: Placedo Elementary, BISD


Position Summary:

The PK Aide supports the delivery of early literacy interventions to students under the guidance and supervision of the campus PK Teacher. The aide assists with implementing structuredteaching activities, and providing small-group or one-on-one support to help young learners build foundational reading skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in delivering early literacy interventions aligned with research-based strategies.

  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce instruction in areas such as phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

  • Support classroom management and maintain a positive, structured environment during learning activities.

  • Prepare instructional materials, organize student work, and help set up/clean up learning areas.

  • Administer teacher-directed assessments or screeners under supervision (e.g., letter/sound identification, fluency checks).

  • Record and maintain student data and observation notes for review by the teacher and instructional team.

  • Assist in monitoring student progress and identifying students who may need additional support.

  • Communicate effectively with the classroom teacher, and support staff.

  • Participate in campus or district-provided training as requested by supervisor/principal. 


Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • At least 48 college credit hours, an associate degree, or obtain a district/state-approved paraprofessional certification

  • Preferred: Background in early childhood education, literacy support, or related field.

Experience:

  • Experience working with young children in an educational or instructional setting preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Basic understanding of early reading development and intervention strategies.

  • Ability to follow instructional plans and adjust support based on student needs.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Dependable, patient, and organized.

  • Comfortable using educational tools and technology (e.g., tablets, alphabet games, phonics apps).
