Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of complex job duties: Process attendance and chronic absence reports for Student Services and alternative education programs related to truancy and interventions. Monitor truant student daily attendance and enrollment. Collect data for reporting to the district as well as for the purposes of present and future grants related to attendance recovery. Work closely with the foster youth population and foster youth counselor to support students in attendance recovery. Participate in all alternative education placement meetings. Assist students and families of the newcomer program with truancy issues in the transition into alternative education. Actively coordinate SART meetings and participate in SARB hearings. Assist and conduct home visits, including referring students and/or parents to various social service/community agencies. Prepare attendance and truancy correspondence in English and Spanish using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Build capacity of students to serve as peer mentors in Mentors for Life to provide support to students struggling with attendance issues.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university with courses in education, psychology, sociology, or related fields. Equivalency Provision Additional experience may be substituted for all or part of the required AA degree or equivalent of sixty (60) semester units/ ninety (90) quarter units on the basis of one (1) year of full-time experience being equal to thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of college courses in business, public administration, education, psychology or related field. If substituting experience for education, a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
