Job Summary:

Responsible for scheduling surgeries in accordance with physician’s orders and insurance requirements, ensuring all necessary paperwork and required tests needed prior to surgery are accurately completed, and clearly communicated pre and post-surgery instructions to patients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with patient to provide pre- and post-surgery instructions, and obtain completed consent forms and required tests or preparations needed prior to surgery.
  • Ensures necessary H&P, blood work and other patient tests are completed.
  • Keeps physician and clinical staff informed regarding pre-op testing and maintains updated documentation and charts available for physician review.
  • Works collaboratively with pre-registration staff to register patients, collect co-pays, and verify insurance and personal information.
  • Contacts insurance company to obtain pre-certification of surgeries based on booking sheet and documents in computer.
  • Schedules hospital surgeries and preoperative testing, coordinates surgical cases with other physicians and schedules patient follow-up appointments.
  • Maintains physician schedules and coordinates physician meetings in the system and/or appointment book.
  • Prepares and distributes surgery packets to patients, updates surgical log daily and replenishes inventory as needed.
  • Provides back-up support and performs other related duties in support of efficient operations.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least two years of experience in surgical scheduling, preferably with a high-volume surgical practice preferred.
  • Must be flexible to travel to various locations.
  • Strong working knowledge of medical and insurance terminology.
  • Computer skills; experience with medical software preferred.
  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA requirements, OSHA regulations and Infection Control standards and CSG policies.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team.
  • Ability to provide positive, customer-focused approach, with commitment to excellent patient care.
