The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Crisis Intervention Specialist, (Community Developer 1G) grade G18 position, in the Family Investment Division.
About the Position
The Crisis Intervention Specialist will report directly to the District Manager and is responsible for assisting with the needs of customers with barriers (i.e.: domestic violence, physical and mental health disabilities, substance abuse issues, unstable housing/homelessness, and criminal history) requiring intervention to stabilize their approach to independence. At all times, the employee in this position will provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers that meets or exceeds standards set by the department.

Position Duties
The Crisis Intervention Specialist position requires a thorough understanding of the domestic violence syndrome including the multiplicity of causes, psychological and physiological stressors, societal reactions/concerns, impact on the family/children, barriers to treatment, and availability of community resources and requires the ability to assist and address barriers that have prevented persons receiving TCA and/or food stamps for 60 months or longer from discontinuing these services and requires the ability to coordinate services with other public and private organizations.
Coordinate an extensive network of wraparound services to support the individual needs and concerns of the customer.
Assist with an intervention/treatment plan that will result in the customers’ needs being met.
Review and provide support with the implementation of the intervention/treatment plan.
Review and assist with the intervention/treatment plan monthly with the customer.
Support the effectiveness of the intervention/treatment plan.
Follow the method of protocol in opening cases, documentation of work, and closing cases.
Assist in obtaining any documentation needed to determine eligibility for services.
Be available to attend training and workshops that will enhance their level of work.
Assist with counseling service to customers, including couples, families, and adolescents
Work within the local district offices to support customers who are seeking DSS services.
Be available to engage customers who are in crisis or needs exceed the benefits offered at the local district office.
Assist with the needs of customers in crisis and make referrals to other DSS services or community-based social support programs.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are with the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s class of work.
Act as a liaison in coordinating services and resources for resolving issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with major course work in business or public administration, social service, sociology, psychology, or other fields. Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
