Who We Are:

At Gunfire Games, we’re passionate about crafting unforgettable worlds and gameplay experiences. Our legacy includes hits like The Darksiders Series, Remnant From the Ashes, Remnant II, and Chronos- and we're not slowing down. We're a team driven by innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to pushing our craft forward.

Now, we’re looking for an Associate Gameplay Programmer to join us in developing exciting new projects in Unreal Engine. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer to learn from experienced mentors, contribute meaningfully to gameplay systems, and grow in a supportive, creative environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in developing gameplay systems using C++ and Unreal Blueprints, following design documentation and technical guidance from senior developers.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, artists, and animators to implement features that support engaging and responsive gameplay.
  • Help identify and fix bugs, troubleshoot gameplay issues, and contribute to performance optimization efforts throughout development.
  • Participate in prototyping and iteration of new mechanics, supporting gameplay experimentation and refinement based on team feedback.
  • Expand your knowledge of Unreal Engine systems such as AI, animation, physics, and networking while applying best practices in gameplay programming.
  • Contribute to team meetings, sprint planning, and code reviews, sharing ideas and incorporating feedback to improve implementation quality.
  • Work within established development workflows, including source control, build systems, and task tracking tools, to ensure smooth production progress.

Who You Are:

  • You are, at a minimum, within a year of graduating with a bachelor’s degree in game development, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related focus.
  • You have a portfolio of game development projects (professional, academic or personal) that showcase your programming contributions and expertise.
  • You are proficient in C++ and have a solid understanding of object-oriented programming.
  • You have some experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5 (personal, academic, or internship projects are welcome).
  • You have a passion for gameplay programming, systems design, and creating interactive experiences.
  • You’re a strong communicator, eager to learn, and enjoy collaborating with others in a team setting.
  • You are self-motivated, organized, and capable of taking initiative with support.
  • You are based in the United States and are legally authorized to work in the U.S. (we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time)

Bonus XP (Not Required, But Nice to Have):

  • Any professional gaming industry experience.
  • Experience working on a team project or game jam.
  • Familiarity with Blueprints or Unreal’s visual scripting tools.
  • Interest in AI, animation systems, multiplayer replication, or character movement.
  • A degree or coursework in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related field.
  • Experience developing console platforms (even in academic or hobby projects).

The responsibilities listed above are not intended to be exhaustive. The selected candidate may be expected to perform other duties as reasonably required. This position may initially be offered on a temp-to-hire basis.

Pay range:
$70,000 - $90,000. Title level and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
