Position Summary:
The Zagbëgon Academy Center Assistant supports the daily operations of the Zagbëgon program and building staff by filling in during absences and performing general office and receptionist tasks. Responsibilities include coordinating departmental supply inventory and budgeting, demonstrating expertise in child development and education, and building positive relationships with children, families, staff, and the community. The role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and ethical decision-making. Classroom practices must reflect developmentally appropriate methods. The individual also serves as a backup for the bus monitor and cook and may perform other duties as assigned by the Site Manager. Familiarity with relevant laws and a willingness to learn Pokagon Band culture and achieve Serv-Safe certification are expected.
Essential Functions:
- Support daily operations of Zagbëgon and other building team members through substituting when there are absences and performance of general office tasks and receptionist duties.
- Coordinate departmental inventory, ordering of supplies, and budget tracking.
- Demonstrates knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and special education.
- Demonstrates ability to develop effective, nurturing relationships with children, families, staff, and community.
- Provide support in the kindergarten class, as needed.
- Demonstrates an understanding and ability to execute developmentally appropriate practice in the classroom.
- Possesses ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrates professionalism and ethical decision making in working with others.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by Site Manager.
- Acts as backup for the for all team members as well as the cook.

- ServSafe certification.
Equipment:
- Standard office equipment.
- Systems used: MS Office Applications.
Position Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development Associate (CDA) or degree in related field, preferred.
- One (1) year experience working with pre-school children preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class typically require finger dexterity, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbent may be subjected to stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, climbing, and balancing.
Work environment:
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
