Description
The Financial Aid Counselor counsels’ undergraduate students and parents on the financial aid process, eligibility requirements, and long-term financial aid planning. Specific day-to-day responsibilities also include completing verification, evaluating need analysis, creating aid packages, reviewing special circumstances appeals, and managing the social media for the office. This role will additionally help maintain Student Employment, Summer Aid, and be the backup to the front desk. Occasional public speaking may be required.
The Financial Aid Counselor will counsel students and parents in regard to the financial aid process, eligibility requirements, the funding available to pay for college, how to estimate balances due, and the options for financing remaining balances, and complete verification, need analysis, and packaging in accordance with current federal, state, and institutional guidelines. This position will perform both on-campus and off-campus outreach activities by representing the Office of Financial Aid at open houses, high school visits, and various other events, and complete data entry of award packages into Banner.
The Financial Aid Counselor will assist with hiring student employees into Banner and Oracle, help respond to the Student Employment inbox, intake Student Employment hiring documents, and work alongside Payroll and HR to troubleshoot Student Employment issues. This position will prepare correspondence required to resolve application conflicts, provide personal budget and financial aid counseling to individual students and parents, and represent the college by leading informational sessions at both on-campus and off-campus programs regarding federal and institutional financial aid programs.
The Financial Aid Counselor will assist the Director in the preparation of funding requests, and all federal, state, athletic, institutional, and outside agency reports, and in in preparing written publication materials used for recruitment, website, and other sources as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Expertise in federal verification, FERPA and an understanding of the higher education cycle from admission to graduation
- Familiarity with personal computers and printers in a network environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and also to work well with others in a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel for training or outreach activities.
- Occasional public speaking may be required.
- Ability to project a positive public image
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior financial aid experience and an understanding of the basic aid principles.
- Prior experience working with Banner.
- Prior experience working with Federal Student Loans
- The ability to project a positive public image.

40 Hours/ 12 Months/ Monday – Friday
