As part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and world views, Marian University is seeking an Instructional Technologist who will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by supporting the effective integration of instructional technology to enhance the student learning experience. The primary responsibilities of this role include: (1) instructional technology support for faculty and students, (2) instructional technology innovations, (3) faculty development in technology use and innovation, and (4) instructional design support.

The Instructional Technologist will advocate for and support the meaningful use of instructional technologies across the University. This role facilitates technology-rich teaching and learning by providing evaluation and technical support for Marian’s Online Programs learning management system (Canvas) as well as other instructional tools. The position works independently, proactively, and collaboratively with faculty and staff across Online Programs and other departments to implement effective technological resources for instruction.

The Instructional Technologist will provide technology resources and training, answer questions, assist in producing instructional media, and contribute to the development of high-quality, effective learning experiences for Marian students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
  • Instructional Technology Support for Faculty and Students 
    • Provides support to the instructional team, faculty teams with Canvas, LMS capabilities, Yuja, WebEx, and other technologies that both students and faculty use. 
    • Understands how our instructional systems work to effectively provide direction on their use, maintain the service, and provide administrative support, as needed. Systems include, but are not limited to Canvas, YuJa, Respondus, Screenpal, PollEverywhere, WebEx, and TurnItIn.   
    • Works with faculty and staff on individual, department, and discipline-specific technology issues, including but not limited to identification and assessment, pedagogy and education, installation, and on-going troubleshooting  
    • Identifies and works to resolve technology issues and provides services such as standard load support and hardware support 
    • Communicates changes and updates effectively to impacted users; serve as liaison to university system administrators 
    • Collect, prepare, analyze, and evaluate data collected from faculty and students to make recommendations on the impacts of technological innovations in programs and courses. 
  • Instructional Technology Innovation 
    • Keeps abreast of emerging instructional technologies, particularly those related to the relevant disciplines.  
    • Research and coordinate technology instructional tools, materials and online methods for faculty and staff to improve students' educational experience and enhance engagement. 
    • Promote best practices in accessibility, referring to ADA and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) standards 
    • Promote best practices in the use of A.I. in online instruction 
    • Collect, prepare, analyze, and evaluate data collected from faculty and students to make recommendations on the impacts of technological innovations in programs and courses. 
  • Faculty Development in Technology Innovations 
    • Through the presentation of workshops, individual consultations, and development of instructional materials, the Instructional Technologist will train and support faculty on the appropriate use of software and technical resources. 
    • Using sound instructional theories and principles, the Instructional Technologist will help create and/or produce instructional materials to engage students in the learning process. This can include video conversion, lecture capture, multimedia learning objects, etc. 
  • Instructional Design Support  
    • Assist the Senior Instructional Designer and Online Instructional Support Specialist in maintaining high quality online courses and training resources, presentations, and programs. 
    • Assist the Senior Instructional Designer in redesigning or revising existing courses based to better online learning experience through technology enhancements  
    • Provide recommendations to Senior Instructional Designer, Online Instructional Support Specialist, and subject matter experts to update existing courses to enhance student experience and student-instructor engagement through technology. 
  • Other Duties as Assigned 
    • Attend departmental and interdepartmental meetings, coordinate projects, and serve on university committees as assigned. 
    • Maintain a collaborative relationship with faculty, Instructional Designer and Technology team members, and Program Administrators to ensure quality and consistency throughout our courses and programs. 
    • Assist with administrative tasks, program special events and engage actively in the life of the university 
    • Additional responsibilities as assigned by Senior Instructional Designer and Director of Online Innovation. 

Required Qualifications:

  • To be qualified for this position the candidate must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; entry level experience related to course design; an understanding of objective-based curriculum design and experience with Canvas Learning Management System and implementing innovative technologies 
  • A Master’s degree in instructional design or educational technology is preferred.
