Food Service Worker - NAS Oceana Galley - Virginia Beach, VA - Part-Time - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a part-time Food Service Worker to perform janitorial tasks and dishwashing. Assists with preparing food. The work schedule includes some weekends and holidays.
An individual must fill the position with a documented disability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation:
- Wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, and empty trash
- Bus and clean tables
- Clean kitchen and dining areas, refrigerators, cooking equipment, and bathrooms
- Assist with assembling food for serving lines
- Follow all procedures and safety regulations and promptly report accidents, critical incidents, and injuries
- Work as a team with others to ensure efficient program operation
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:
The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully:
- Related experience preferred
- Clearance through criminal background investigation and pre-employment drug screening is required.
- Must be able to obtain a food handler card and have a qualifying disability
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee:
- Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form
- Must be able to exert considerable effort, frequently lifting/moving up to 50lbs, bending, reaching, and squatting
- Must be able to stand for four or more hours
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a commercial kitchen with potential exposure to hazards typical to this environment. The noise level in the work environment is loud with frequent interruptions.
