The Safety Manager is responsible for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, and operation of the Company’s safety and health compliance to various federal, state and /or local laws and regulations. The position may require frequent travel to various company / client job sites to ensure safety compliance requirements and/or meet other business needs. This position will work with the company’s executive leadership team to set safety and security policies that will be communicated to all employees. Safety Manger is responsible to ensure compliance by all company personnel. This position provides the management team with reports on safety activity, including accidents, safety violations and other compliance issues that may occur in the normal course of business operations. The Safety Manager must interact with operations personnel, senior managers, and departmental heads throughout the Company. Safety Manager should also foster collaborative relationships with regulatory authorities, agencies, and service providers outside the organization. 

Primary job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Control hazardous working conditions, prevent accidents and unsafe employee activities through safety management. 
  • Develop employee and craft safety orientation training program and implement upon completion. 
  • Conduct work project safety audits / inspections for confined space entry, property damage and personal injury investigations. 
  • Document all accidents, safety violations and unsafe conditions/activities.  
  • Review documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures, and implement appropriate corrective action as required.  
  • Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk through tours. Coordinate/assist in preparing written appeals for safety violation citations. 
  • Manage the Company’s Worker’s Compensation policies and direct the activities for ensuring employees are able to return to work as quickly and safely as possible within the guidelines of the Company’s Return to Work Policy.
  • Review and advise the Executive and Leadership Teams on the insurance claims trends and identify /recommend corrective actions as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience include but may not be limited to:

  • Four-year occupational safety/health degree or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.  
  • At least 5 years’ construction and/or industrial safety experience.  
  • Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company regulations.  
  • The ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures is essential.  
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills required. 
  • Usually primary safety person on project.  
  • May supervise other safety and medical personnel based on size and scope of project.   
  • Employees must have a minimum of 2 years of construction supervision experience or equivalent.  
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal and supervisory skills required.  

Additional Requirements include but may not be limited to: 

  • Completion of a Pre-Employment Drug / Alcohol Screening
  • Provide Employer a copy of your current valid Driver’s License
  • Ensure that all required and periodic safety procedures are reviewed with new employees.
  • Ensuring safety is always a top priority with Rural Electrical employees.
  • Ensure that 2nd tier subcontractors enforce our / their safety programs including the holding of safety meetings and completing JHAs. Refer and adhere to the Rural Electric’s Safety policies for further instruction and information on OSHA regulations. 

 Other Training Requirements include but may not be limited to: 

  • New Hire Safety Orientation, MSDS, LOTO and QMS may be required on or before the first day of employment. 
  • OSHA 30 Training and Certification
  • Ongoing Safety Training as needed to meet business safety compliance needs as they may change from time-to-time.
