Horticulture Maintenance Worker bei City of Florence, Alabama

About the Department

Plants, prunes, remove and irrigate trees, shrubs, and bedding plants. Controls weeds and assists in the general maintenance of all landscapes maintained by the department.

Position Duties

1. Landscaping

1. Properly plant trees, shrubs, flowers, and ground covers.
2. Assist in tree pruning operations (ground support).
3. Assist in shrub pruning operations.
4. Assist in the removal of small and large trees and shrubs.
5. Install mulch and control weeds.
6. Irrigate newly planted trees, shrubs, and flowers.
7. Mow, edge, and string trim turf.

2. Additional Duties

1. Operate and maintains department equipment.
2. Cleans and services department equipment.
3. Applies chemicals and fertilizers as directed.
4. Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

1. Preferred experience in outdoor manual labor
2. Preferred experience in landscaping work

Other Qualifications

1. Ability to learn plant identification
2. Ability to learn how to use tools necessary for Urban Forestry/Horticulture trade 
3. Ability to learn how to use power tools in Urban Forestry/Horticulture trade
4. Ability to work at heights to up to 30 feet.
5. Ability to communicate with the public in a respective manner
6. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.
7. Ability to work effectively with other personnel.

Physical Demands (with or without reasonable accommodation):

1. Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, and stretching.
2. Ability to lift and carry a fifty (50) pound bag of fertilizer.

Equipment/Tools Used:  Hand tools: shovel, rake, broom, wheelbarrow, loppers, pruning shears. Power tools: chainsaw, leaf blower, drill. Equipment: tractors, spray rig, spreaders, dump truck, bucket truck Additional tools & equipment as trained and assigned.
