About the Department

Pitt Community College is seeking a Cosmetology Instructor to join our Workforce Licensure team. Under limited supervision, the instructor will teach cosmetology students across various class levels—including beginners, theory, senior, supplemental instruction, and special classes—as assigned. This role requires close supervision of students in both classroom and clinic settings, a commitment to fostering strong student relations, and an emphasis on professionalism, customer service, and industry standards.

Position Duties

What You’ll Do

• Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in cosmetology, ensuring alignment with North Carolina State Board standards.
• Supervise and mentor students in classroom and clinic environments, promoting professional conduct, appearance, and customer service skills.
• Stay current on cosmetology trends, techniques, and teaching methods to provide students with up-to-date training.
• Prepare, review, and maintain required instructional records including attendance, grade sheets, evaluations, schedules, and reports.
• Administer and grade tests, track student progress, and provide feedback.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and instructional materials; report additional needs to the Cosmetology School Manager.
• Serve as a group counselor and provide first-line guidance for students, referring complex concerns to the School Manager.
• Promote positive relationships between instructors, students, and clinic patrons to support the school’s image and community impact.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the program and students.

Other Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

• North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners Cosmetology Instructor Certificate required
• North Carolina Cosmetologist License required
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, crouch, and perform demonstrations for extended periods.
• Must be able to exert up to 150 pounds occasionally for moving equipment/supplies, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Proficiency in operating computers, audiovisual equipment, and instructional tools.
• Prior teaching or training experience in cosmetology.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to foster an engaging, supportive, and professional learning environment.
