The bus mechanic shall take work assignments and leadership from the garage shop foreman. The bus mechanic is responsible to maintain the safe and reliable running condition of each bus. He/She is responsible to provide for the general overall vehicle (gasoline and diesel) maintenance in order that the district can provide the safe and economical transport of students. He/She shall portray a professional image for the district which is critical to the success of the operation.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma.
- Certification: Technical Certification in diesel and gasoline engines. State Inspection Certification and knowledge of school bus codes.
- License: CDL and School Bus Operator License (Such Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable)
Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide for and repair both the mechanical, body, and interior of all vehicles
- Report to administration and procure the needed parts.
- Maintain parts inventory control.
- Respond to on the road needs for repairs. Remain overtime to perform needed repairs and driving.
- Perform state inspections.
- Routinely check the buses for safety.
- Repair other district-owned vehicles and equipment as required.
- Assist with routing and scheduling issues as requested.
- Operate buses and equipment as requested.
- Report safety issues and concerns
- Act as a substitute bus driver as required.
- Perform such other duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation or Garage Shop Foreman.

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud, depending on the activity in the particular part of the day.

Salary, work year, and other terms and conditions of employment as established by contract between Whitehall-Coplay School District, Superintendent, and the Whitehall-Coplay School District Board of Directors.
