Position Description

Major/Essential Functions
- May review labs, medications, and health issues while completing a full examination. Health maintenance reminders.
- Responsibilities may included reviewing charts, seeing patients and families at clinic visits, writing orders and notes with independent billing, and reviewing post-visit labs with follow-up while keeping a consistent plan of care.
- Elicits records and interprets a complete health history including all Gastroenterology, past Medical Family and psycho-social aspects. Performs a complete adult physical examination, assessment, distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings.
- Orders Tests and procedures as necessary. Consults with the attending or resident physicians prior to initiation of major procedure or plan. Writes admissions, discharges and medical orders.
- Formulates a care plan of care based on physical exam or other data and implements.
- Performs Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary. Other duties as assigned.
- Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).

Required Qualifications
- Graduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association
- Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer licensee to Texas
- Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing
- Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas
