POSITION:   Accountant-In-Charge
LOCATION:  Administration Building
BEGINNING: August 25, 2025 or sooner if possible
STARTING SALARY:  $65,000 - $72,000; commensurate based on experience, education & skills
DIRECTLY REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

POSITION GOAL:
To support the effective management of the district’s financial operations by ensuring accurate accounting, compliance, and resource optimization to maximize the impact of available financial resources on educational services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Education:
    B.S/B.A. in accounting, finance or business administration required.

 

  1. Training and Experience:
    School District experience is preferred.  Experience as an accountant in business, industry, or nonprofit organizations is highly desirable. Supervisory experience preferred.  Experience with state and federal programs, including the use of NexSys and GEMS / MARS preferred.

  2. Demonstrated Technical Skills:
    Computer literacy, especially working with spreadsheets and financial statements; communication and presentation skills are highly desirable; accounting skills. Understanding of bank procedures, investments (CDs, treasury notes, etc.) checking accounts and collateral is highly desirable.

  3. Human Relations Skills:
    An ability to communicate effectively and relate positively with students, parents, staff, and other members of the community. 

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the Director of Finance with the comprehensive overall bookkeeping and accounting transactions as per the requirements of the district and is consistent with all applicable laws and Board of Education policies.
  2. Maintain all records relative to the General Fund, Debt Funds, Student Activities Fund, Building & Site Funds, Capital Projects Fund, and Food Service Fund.
  3. Prepare monthly Balance Sheet reports for the General Fund, Building and Site Funds, and Food Service Fund.
  4. Prepare weekly software generated budget updates on all funds and programs.
  5. Reconcile bank statements each month with the appropriate banking institutions.
  6. Reconcile purchase card statements each month.
  7. Oversee posting and preparation of receipts and disbursements on a monthly basis. 
  8. Prepare monthly financial statements as requested by the Director of Finance.
  9. Retrieve and organize financial records, reports, and data for the district's auditor.
  10. Monitor the internal accounting process.
  11. Receipt and deposit all monies for the school district.
  12. Assist in the investment of funds as deemed appropriate by the Director of Finance.
  13. Provide budgetary assistance and data as requested by the Director of Finance.
  14. Submit Debt Retirement payments and obligations on time.
  15. Disburse Student Activity and Debt Retirement Funds from approved requests by processing district checks.
  16. Request State/Federal monies as required.
  17. Maintain all records relative to various Federal/State programs.
  18. Prepare and submit all financial program reports for federal, state and Medicaid.
  19. Prepare reports as requested by the Kent I.S.D.
  20. Assist program administrators with data for mandated reports.
  21. Performs other relevant duties as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.
