POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Supervise yard operations and work with employees throughout the day to prioritize work.  Prioritize scrap metal loads and lay out spreads for burners.  Test scrap metal as needed.  Train new hires on cutting steel, torch operation, sorting metals, and crane operation.  Ensure employee safety and manage employee conflict.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Five plus years’ scrap yard operation experience.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, delegate, follow up, provide constructive feedback and coaching.
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels and departments of the business.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills or supervisor training classes.
• Possess a strong aptitude for managing multiple tasks and assignments with a sense of urgency.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Inspect and prepare the yard every morning to ensure smooth operation.
• Prioritize work with direct reports throughout the day.
• Prioritize scrap metal loads and lay out spreads for Burners.
• Help direct reports with scrap metal testing and sorting.
• Train new hires on cutting steel, torch operation, sorting metals, and crane operation.
• Ensure employee safety and manage employee conflict.
• Load and unload trucks as needed.
• Ensure a safe work environment and contribute to a highly engaging culture that fosters safety, continuous improvement, teamwork, and trust.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SUPERVISION:

• Hourly yard employees, with the exception of: Maintenance, Truck Drivers, and hourly office employees.
