In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

These positions function as Departmental Assistants for the Opera Program at TBC.

This job requires federal work-study eligibility and U.S. domestic status.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a communication liaison between various personnel related to the opera office, including the opera area head, principal conductor, stage management, production staff, and students. This includes but is not limited to regular email communications, dissemination of information to various personnel and departments, and tracking of information such as student releases and event requirements.

  • Assist in creating the weekly music rehearsal schedule and department event programs, including copywriting, editing, and proofreading.

  • Prepare spaces for rehearsals, concerts, and masterclasses. Facilitate these events by taking attendance, greeting guests, assisting with technical and scenic elements, and chaperoning visiting guest artists as necessary.

  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, preparing scores, managing department props and costumes, and organizing digital materials and information in Google Drive.

  • Prepare application materials for competitions such as the National Opera Association Production Competition.

  • Research as directed for various departmental needs.

  • Additional support of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s opera program and faculty as needed.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with and interest in departmental activities. 

  • Ability to read music notation; knowledge of operatic repertoire, and familiarity with English, Italian, French, and German languages; understanding of International Phonetic Alphabet (“IPA”)

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Suite, as well as general knowledge of and comfort with technology.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including over the phone, email, and in person.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong time management and proofreading skills.

  • Demonstrates a collaborative mindset, positive attitude, and reliability, with the flexibility and discretion to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to perform various physical tasks such as transporting items between various conservatory buildings and moving objects to prepare spaces for events.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Membership in the Opera Studio is preferred
