Associate Cybersecurity Pre-Release Penetration Tester

The mission of Fidelity's Pre Release Assessment Team is to prevent new Critical and High vulnerabilities from being introduced to production. This is done by performing assessments of applications prior to each production release, with a primary focus on identifying vulnerabilities from the OWASP Top 10. The team then work closely with the business to enable them to mitigate any issues prior to their release, in a positive team-oriented collaborative innovative environment.

As a Senior Pre-Release Penetration Tester, you will perform security assessments of Fidelity applications prior to their production deployment using a combination of Static Code Analysis, Dynamic testing tools and manual techniques. Along with these assessments, you will collaborate with other teams within Enterprise Cybersecurity and the development communities to provide proof of concept attacks, develop security guidance and assist in the remediation of security findings. In addition, you will contribute to the definition and continuous improvement of the Pre-Release Assessment process/methodology.

While working as part of this team, the successful individual must display a high degree of ownership and provide strong leadership and mentorship to a team of pre-release testers for their own work and be able to quickly understand the security environment in which we operate. It is a varied and interesting role, which will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work with many business units, work closely with senior management, and gain valuable expertise in the critical area of Information Security.

The Purpose of Your Role

  • Foster a collaborative team-oriented environment across the global sites that results in high quality, consistent and efficient work produced.
  • Lead testing efforts on Fidelity's web and mobile applications prior to release to production.
  • Replicate the actual techniques and tools used by malicious attackers to model potential external threats.
  • Upon completion of the assessment, you will prepare reports and present the results to application owners, developers, and business unit information security teams.
  • Analyze test results, draw conclusions from results.
  • Consult with operations and software development teams to ensure potential weaknesses are addressed.
  • Collaborate with other teams within Enterprise Cybersecurity to improve the overall security of Fidelity's applications.
  • Stay current on security best practices and vulnerabilities.

The Expertise We’re Looking For

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of IT experience.
  • 2+ years hands-on web application penetration testing / ethical hacking experience.
  • Preferred: 1+ years of experience in developing Java/J2EE apps.
  • Preferred: Experience with additional technologies such as mobile, .NET, JavaScript.
  • Preferred: CWEE, CBBH, Burp Suite Certified Practitioner, eMAPT, OSWE, OSCP, or other industry security certifications.

The Skills You Bring

  • Ability to demonstrate moderate to sophisticated manual testing experience including all OWASP Top 10.
  • Intermediate knowledge of application security mechanisms such as authentication and authorization techniques, data validation, and the proper use of encryption.
  • Technical knowledge of, and the ability to recognize several types of application security vulnerabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with common penetration testing and vulnerability assessment tools such as Burp Suite Professional, sqlmap, Qualys, Metasploit, Kali linux and more.
  • Intermediate knowledge of a programming or scripting language such as C, C#, Python, Objective C, Java, Javascript, SQL.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Web Services technologies such as XML, JSON, SOAP, REST, and AJAX.
  • Intermediate knowledge of web frameworks, including XML, SOAP, J2EE, JSON and Ajax
  • Experience with Enterprise Java or .NET web application frameworks, including Struts and Spring.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the desire to assist others in solving issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong interest in the application security domain.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and a proven ability to communicate threats and facilitate progress towards long-term remediation.
  • Highly motivated with the willingness to take ownership / responsibility for their work and the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

The Pre-Release Assessment team forms part of Security Assessment group within Enterprise Cybersecurity (ECS). The goal of the Security Assessment group is to proactively identify and remediate vulnerabilities in Fidelity’s applications and infrastructure. We work very closely with all the key Business Units to ensure that they remain secure while they deliver key projects to advance the firm.
