POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nursing House Supervisor provides administrative and clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality,
patient-centered care across all units. This role supports hospital operations, coordinates staffing, and serves as the on-site resource for clinical and administrative decision-making.
JOB-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Service

o Collaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Clinical Excellence
o Provide clinical oversight and guidance to nursing staff across all units.
o Demonstrates strong oversight of patient flow, including effective bed management and coordination of
admissions, transfers, and discharges to support timely and efficient throughput.
o Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices and specialty care protocols.
o Participate in clinical rounds and support escalation of care when needed.
o Monitor patient acuity and adjust staffing or resources accordingly.
o Serve as the primary administrative representative during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
o Coordinate interdepartmental communication to ensure smooth hospital operations.
o Respond to emergencies, critical incidents, and urgent staffing needs.
o Support the implementation of hospital-wide initiatives and service excellence programs.
• Patient Experience and Advocacy
o Promote a culture of compassion, dignity, and respect in all patient interactions.
o Address and resolve patient and family concerns in real-time.
o Advocate for patient needs and ensure timely access to specialty services.
o Support staff in delivering culturally competent and patient-centered care
• Quality Assurance and Compliance
o Ensures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
o Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
o Promotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.
o Monitor compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements.
o Conduct audits and safety rounds to identify and mitigate risks.
o Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and patient complaints.
o Collaborate with quality and risk management teams to implement corrective actions.
• Professional Growth and Continuing Education
o Completes annual education requirements. o Maintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.
o Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.
o Participates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.
o Mentor and support clinical staff in professional development and clinical decision-making.
o Identify learning needs and recommend training opportunities.
o Participate in hospital committees, quality improvement projects, and continuing education.
o Promote a culture of lifelong learning and clinical excellence.
• Finance
o Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
o Optimize staffing levels to ensure cost-effective care delivery without compromising quality.
o Approve and monitor use of overtime and agency staff.
o Support resource stewardship by minimizing waste and promoting efficient use of supplies.
o Contribute to budget planning by providing data on staffing trends and operational needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited school of nursing/nursing program required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing/nursing program preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• At least 1-2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Strong clinical skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care in a fast-paced and complex
• environment.
• Experience working with patients who have medical and/or behavioral health diagnoses is strongly preferred.
SKILLS:
• Strong clinical knowledge and nursing skills related to specialty care, including medication administration, acute
• illness management, and emergency response coordination.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and sound clinical judgment in high-acuity and complex patient care situations.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams, offering clear updates and emotional support.
• Maintains professionalism and empathy when addressing patient and family concerns, especially during high-stress or crisis situations.
• Provides compassionate, patient-centered care while managing challenging behaviors and emotional needs with
sensitivity.
• Skilled in behavioral health management, including the use of therapeutic communication and de-escalation
techniques.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond to rapidly changing clinical
demands.
• Prioritizes tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely and safe patient care delivery.
• Collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and coordination of care across units.
• Adheres to hospital safety protocols, infection prevention standards, and clinical best practices.
• Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical technology for accurate documentation and
care coordination.
• Demonstrates effective supervisory skills, including staff coaching, conflict resolution, and performance feedback.
• Provides leadership and support to nursing staff during off-hours, ensuring appropriate staffing and resource allocation.
• Acts as a role model for professional behavior, accountability, and clinical excellence.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Texas.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire, per unit requirement.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) from American Heart Association//American Red Cross required, must be valid for a minimum of 6 months from date of hire, per unit requirement.
• De-escalation training within 30 days after hire.
• Must maintain current certification in good standing during employment with this facility.
