Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director/designee, the MC Medication Technician position is responsible for providing residents with comfort, safety, as needed/ordered medication management, personal care, and as needed life enrichment programming. As with all team members who work within the Memory Care, key focus areas are maintaining a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for residents and their family members.
Primary Responsibilities
- Follow the schedule of duties as well as the individualized service plan for each resident.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions on safety, dementia care practices, and other relevant topics.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned or required.
- Observes residents for any changes in conditions and immediately reports to the Clinical Director/designee.
- Assists residents with performing activities of daily living (ADLs), hydration, weight checks, linens, bed-making, laundry, menu selections, as well as going to meals and activities. Report changes in resident condition or any observation that may assist with providing resident-centered care to the Clinical Director/designee.
- Orders/Tracks medications as needed, as well as completes needed follow up. Verifies physician orders and documents medications received/released/destroyed.
- Notify the Clinical Director/designee of any need for supplies.
- Assists residents with taking their medications as ordered by their primary care physician.
- Assists residents to maintain a safe, clean and orderly environment.
- Assists with food service as needed and maintains a comfortable, as well as home-like atmosphere in the dining room. Monitor resident’s food intake and report concerns to the Clinical Director or designee on duty.
- Lead, assist with, and/or participate in resident programming within the Memory Care.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident care information.
- Works towards maintaining each resident’s self-respect, personal dignity and personal safety.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with resident family members.
- Take advantage of every interaction, including time spent in providing physical assistance, to offer caring touch, psychological support, emotional warmth and social stimulation.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions on safety, dementia care practices, and other relevant topics.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At least two (2) years of experience providing care to older adults with dementia is required.
- Must have a food-handlers certificate or obtain one within thirty (30) days of hire. An active certificate must be maintained during employment.
- Must have self-motivation. Able to initiate tasks as instructed.
- Must have a current basic first aid and CPR card or obtain certification within thirty (30) days of hire. Must maintain active certification during employment.
- The ability to read, write and communicate to residents, staff, families, vendors, and all business relationships in English language.
- Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical, and TB test.
- Must be able to communicate with all levels of staff in an effective, neutral and professional manner.
- Must demonstrate excellent skills in reading writing, speaking and understanding the English language. Other languages a plus.
- Ability to function as a member of the team in a multi-task environment.
- Must be flexible and able to handle multiple priorities, with the ability to adjust to high pressure and changing business conditions.
- Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.
