Summary 

The Accounting Intern is an onsite employee who is responsible for supporting an accounting team by performing a variety of tasks that may include daily cash reconciliation, invoice creation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll tasks, data entry, maintaining fixed assets, and posting and account reconciliations, depending upon the area this role supports. There may be other tasks assigned as the need arises. This individual will use accounting knowledge and experience to resolve discrepancies and improve processes. The Accounting Intern will work under the direction of accounting leadership to carry out daily tasks.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with daily cash application of customer checks received
  • Balances and prints cash receipt reports
  • Assists with the accounts payable payment cycle, reviewing invoices and payments for accuracy.
  • Updates various reports and electronic files related to orders, deliveries and forecasted revenue
  • Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Updates, verifies, and maintains account journals, ledgers and other financial records
  • Participate in general ledger month-end process
  • Finds and uses accounting data to resolve or investigate accounting problems and discrepancies
  • Works closely with the Accounts Payable Specialist and Senior Accountant
  • Liaise with other departments, customers and vendors
  • Flexible and willing to perform a variety of related tasks/projects
  • Perform monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts as assigned to ensure all transactions are accounted for accurately and properly posted.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of 1 or more years of post-high school education focused on the Accounting discipline.
  • Ability to multi-task; always maintain a professional demeanor and provide excellent written and verbal communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, use hands to handle, feel or lift and is occasionally required to stand, walk, or stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
