We are looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on Assistant Manager Safety & Health to support our highway grading and paving division. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate safety professional who enjoys working directly with teams on the ground to ensure safe and healthy working environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety and health practices, be proactive in identifying risks, and take a hands-on approach to solving safety challenges in a dynamic construction environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Safety Program Development & Implementation: Assist with evaluating, planning, organizing, and implementing comprehensive safety and health management programs, policies, and procedures tailored to the highway grading and paving division.
  • Training & Development: Assist with the creation, scheduling, and execution of training programs related to safety, health, and job-specific tasks. Ensure that all employees are well-trained in safety protocols and practices.
  • Risk Identification & Hazard Assessments: Conduct regular inspections of company facilities and job sites to identify hazardous conditions and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, local safety standards, and internal safety policies. Keep up to date with industry best practices and regulations.
  • Incident Reporting & Investigation: Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Employee Engagement & Support: Foster a safety culture where employees feel supported, valued, and empowered to report hazards and suggest improvements. Actively engage with teams to promote safe behaviors.

The Ideal Candidate:

Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and hazard analysis in the paving and grading environment. A genuine interest in improving the safety and well-being of others. You should be someone who thrives in a hands-on role, working directly with field teams and leadership to implement safety programs and solutions. Ability to develop, organize, and deliver effective safety training programs. Proficiency in creating engaging training materials that resonate with employees. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees at all levels.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.S) from four-year college or university preferred.  Minimum of five (5) years of related industry or safety experience required.   Experience working in an outdoor manufacturing, construction environment a plus.  Other combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. 

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations:

  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License required
  • Ability to obtain OSHA 30 construction certification
  • Ability to obtain first aid/CPR certification
