JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description

The Target Salary Range for this position is: $72,000-$85,000

The Senate Recording Studio is seeking a talented Broadcast Graphic Designer to join our broadcast team. The Broadcast Graphic Designer will collaborate closely with our post-production, and production teams to create compelling visual graphics for television broadcasts, as well as other projects. In this role you will be independently responsible for designing engaging graphics and animations for various clients and projects; creating stunning titles and lower thirds for video; translating client goals into design concepts; and editing raw footage.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, etc.) and have the skills to create still broadcast graphics and motion graphics. A portfolio/demo reel must be submitted with your application to be considered. 

Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties
Creates and designs a variety of still and motion graphics for video utilizing industry standard software. Designs or refines logos, branding elements, and style guides to establish a cohesive visual identity for the SRS. Ensures all graphic designs meet technical specifications for broadcast standards. Operates a variety of video, audio, lighting and other production-related equipment and systems, transports equipment when necessary. Fields requests for production requirements for video and audio productions, recording services; performs recording, playback and duplication of audio and video programs; manages automated video recording and logging systems; conducts post-production tasks. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in radio and television production, graphic design.

Other Duties/ Responsibilities

  • May serve as director and/or technical director.
  • Participates in Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning, including exercises, drills and training.
  • Stays updated with industry trends, video editing techniques, and software to continuously improve your skills and knowledge.

Required Work Experience

  • One to three years of experience working with audio and video broadcast and recording equipment, or graphic design.

Required Special Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the operational and maintenance characteristics of a variety of broadcast equipment used to produce live or recorded productions.
  • Knowledge of the techniques used to produce live or recorded television productions.
  • Knowledge of pre- and post-production techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions normally associated with broadcast and recording studio work.
  • Ability to set up and operate a variety of audio and video production equipment.
  • Ability to set up video teleconferencing software for use in live television.
  • Ability to coordinate production requirements and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to direct diverse productions, coordinate production requirements and schedule productions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while working with others using tact and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in graphic design software.
  • Proficient in using character generators.
  • Ability to create and document a style guide and maintain consistency in visual language to adhere to brand guidelines.
  • Experienced in building and developing graphics for various platforms/delivery devices.
  • Experienced with motion graphic software.

As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. 

Working Conditions

  • Moderate (carrying of items less than 50 pounds).
  • In the event of an emergency, the position may require on-site reporting within 2 hours.
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.

 CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

To be employed by a Senate employing office in a paid position in the continental United States an individual must:
1. Be a U.S. citizen;
2. Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B);
3. Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or
4. Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
