Responsible To:

 

The Education Support Professional is directly responsible to the Building Principal and/or
Associate Principal and/or Administrator of Special Education and/or Assistant Director(s) of
Special Education.

 

General Summary:

 

The Education Support Professional supports and carries out instruction designed by general and special educators to meet the individual needs of students with or without disabilities in a calm and non-reactionary manner. The Education Support Professional is directly involved in assisting the educator to achieve student success. This may include work with students on IEP goals, monitoring and documenting student progress, and regular communication with the classroom teacher(s) and/or service providers. The Education Support Professional understands boundaries and diplomacy with colleagues, families and community members and communicates information for or from parents/guardians to the classroom teacher (Prek-5), Special Education Liaison (6-12) who will organize the direct communication.

 

Qualifications:

  • Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, or
  • Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least
  • 48 credit hours from an accredited higher education institution, or
  • Have met a rigorous standard on one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed
  • Assessments: Parapro or WorkKeys
  • Familiarity with Special Education/IEPs preferred
  • Experience with data collection/documentation preferred

Specific Duties:

 

1. Support and assist students for physical, academic, and/or behavioral needs
2. Implement Positive Behavior Support Plans
3. Manage aggressive behaviors, apply behavior de-escalation and safety skills, and apply
programmatic safety training skills as needed (ie. CPI/Safety Care)
4. Provide a variety of specialized learning techniques and/or applied behavioral activities
pertaining to instruction individualized for student support/instruction
5. Monitor student progress, collect and document appropriate academic and/or behavioral
data
6. Implement use of verbal and visual supports for students, model appropriate tasks, skills
and behaviors for students
7. Accompany student throughout the day, as needed, for all classes, services, recess,
student lunch time, and any other times required (based on requirements as delineated in
the IEP or 504)
8. Support classroom teacher with classroom duties, if necessary
9.Facilitate, collaborate and communicate between classroom teachers and special
education liaisons regarding the needs of the students served.
10. Participation in district provided job related training
11.Any other duties as assigned by the Building/Special Education Administrators

Working Conditions:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. At times may need to use physical guidance to assist students. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people. The employee is regularly required to sit and stand. The employee may be required to walk long distances; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must use hand/grip strength to operate office equipment. Ability to withstand long term use of computers is required. The employee will be required to respond quickly in the event of emergencies. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. There are often multiple

adults engaging with students within the same environment. The employee is required to
regularly interact with the students, staff and the public. May be required to work in the
following environmental conditions: dusty, cold, hot, indoor and outdoor.

 

Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification:


This position is classified as Non-Exempt.

 

Terms of Employment:


183 work days as specified under the provisions of the Weymouth Educators Association (WEA)
Unit D Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employment based on successful completion of a
background check pursuant to state and/or federal laws.

The Executive Director of Human Resources is directly responsible to the Superintendent of
Schools


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Human Resource Management or related field, required
  • Master Degree in Business, Human Resource Management or related field, preferred
  • Hold and maintain MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Superintendent/Asst. Superintendent license, preferred
  • SHRM or PHR Certification, preferred
  • Minimum of five to seven years related human resource experience
  • Minimum of seven to ten years leadership experience

General Duties:


The Executive Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing leadership and support to the Superintendent and the leadership team, to the school principals, and to the employees of the school district. The Executive Director of Human Resources is responsible for effectively planning, developing, implementing, and administering all services associated with the human resources function. The Executive Director of Human Resources promotes a culture that emphasizes service, communication, motivation, and support; working collaboratively with school administrators and human resource staff to identify approaches and develop policies and practices that facilitate service and resources to the District. The Executive Director of Human Resources will assist in the strategic plan of human resource priorities in support of the district’s goals and priorities.


Specific Duties:


1. Directs and administers all human resource functions for school personnel included, but
not limited to: recruitment, retention, state and federal regulation compliance, wage and
salary administration, job classifications and position revisions, collective bargaining
negotiation and administration, policy administration, grievance procedure
administration, employee relations, staff training, and performance evaluations programs.


2. Collaborates with the School Committee Negotiations Sub-Committee in accordance
with state requirements. Provides labor relations support to school leadership teams;
perform in-depth research for collective bargaining proposals; research practices in other
communities and help draft bargaining proposals; attend bargaining sessions and

maintain records of the proceedings; and produce new agreements at the end of

bargaining.


3. Administer, oversee and make determinations related to DESE licensure requirements,
state criminal history background checks (CORI), fingerprinting requirements, etc. in
conformance with collective bargaining agreements, district policies and state and federal
requirements. Determines course of action in light of any problematic reports.


4. Establish and lead the standard recruiting, hiring, and assessment practices for the School Department.


5. Oversee the administration of management responsibilities outlined in contractual
agreements, such as producing annual seniority reports, monitoring of teacher licensing,
approving and monitoring teacher tuition reimbursement, and other contractually related
activities.


6. Monitor and support staff evaluation procedures, provide professional development in
evaluation protocols and methods, provide notifications of timelines, ensure compliance
with evaluation requirements, and compile data on evaluation completion and efficacy.


7. Serve as the Title IX Compliance Officer, EEOC Coordinator, Grievance Officer and
Joint Labor Management representative to nine (9) collective bargaining groups.
Oversees nondiscrimination and harassment prevention policies.


8. Address personnel issues for the Schools and serves as the subject matter expert on
personnel matters including progressive discipline and performance improvement plans
when necessary.


9. Analyze software solutions designed to meet the department’s needs to promote state of
the art human resource practices. Oversee software application and implementation and
upgrades. Collaborate with the IT department to troubleshoot and resolve system errors;
verify system back-up schedules and procedures.


10. Mediate employee disputes; work to improve communication within schools; provide
advice and counsel to School Administrators on a wide variety of topics.


11. Collaborate with district leaders to imbed diversity, equity and inclusion in all hiring and
retention practices. Monitor and encourage diverse hires throughout the organization;
oversee recruitment processes and advertisement practices to ensure diverse audiences.


12. Oversees the administration of workers’ compensation for school department employees
and ensures that safety practices are being followed throughout the school worksites.

 

 

13. Work collaboratively with the human resource staff, supervisors and managers
throughout the schools, provide effective and thoughtful resolutions to organizational
issues that impact employees. Assess the climate for effective performance, training and
development needs; promote a culture of employee engagement; attend to employee
relations and organizational structure as it affects employee motivation and
interdepartmental relations; make recommendations for optimizing human resources.


14. Develops and monitors the human resource annual budget.


15. Ensure the accuracy and accessibility of personnel records. Maintains and disposes of
other departmental records in accordance with Massachusetts Public Records Laws.


16. Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Human Resource Office, supervision of
staff, and human resource practices.


17. The Executive Director of Human Resources must have requisite knowledge and skills to
ensure compliance of all federal, state and local employment laws.


18. Performs all other related duties as assigned.


Working Conditions:


Work is primarily sedentary and is performed in an office setting. Work requires in-district travel between schools as well as occasional out-of-district travel. Work requires direct contact with staff, students and community members. The nature of the position requires hours beyond the regular school day. It is expected that the person filling this position will give priority to completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
