Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Prevention Specialist - FYS will coordinate with local education agencies, community partners, local and state policy makers to develop and implement programs and strategies for prevention, intervention, and educational services for foster and homeless youth throughout Kern County.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience working with programs serving youth experiencing homelessness or foster care, including community based activities; One (1) year of experience in trauma informed care training and outreach; experience in grant writing and program performance monitoring, including evaluation/data collection activities; experience in outreach and marketing (including public relations) and leading the facilitation of community events. Education: BA/BS degree required. Master’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred. Salary Info

$7,137 - $8,640 per month. Salary step placement for promotional candidates is based upon Rules of the Personnel Commission.

IMPORTANT COMMENTS: •All candidates will be notified by email throughout the hiring process. •Each candidate’s application papers and answers to the essay questions contained within the application will be thoroughly evaluated and ranked by a screening committee appointed by the Kern County Superintendent of Schools. Candidates achieving a rating of 70% or better will qualify to continue in the eligibility screening process. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
