Job Overview:
We are seeking Fiberglass Specialists to perform repair, modification, and finishing work on fiberglass shells used for [insert product/application, e.g., custom vehicle body panels].
Candidates must have hands-on experience with fiberglass layup, structural repair, grinding, polishing, and precision cutting to meet specified thickness and fitment requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Assess existing fiberglass shells for thickness inconsistencies and areas requiring reinforcement.
- Perform fiberglass layup to build up thin sections to required thickness.
- Grind, smooth, and polish designated plate areas to prepare for fastener installation.
- Perform precision cutting, including:
- Opening pre-marked eye cutouts.
- Removing interference sections to ensure proper chassis mounting clearance.
- Ensure work meets structural integrity, surface finish, and dimensional tolerance requirements.
- Follow safety protocols for handling fiberglass materials, tools, and chemicals.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on fiberglass fabrication and repair experience.
- Proficiency in both hand layup and repair techniques for structural and cosmetic fiberglass work.
- Skilled in the use of grinders, sanders, rotary cutting tools, and other fabrication equipment.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings, templates, and specifications.
- Knowledge of resin systems, curing processes, and proper material handling.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure precision cuts and smooth surface finishes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
- Understanding of PPE requirements and safe work practices for fiberglass work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with large, custom-molded fiberglass shells or automotive/aerospace composites.
- Familiarity with gelcoat touch-up and blending.
- Previous work in a production or prototype fabrication environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working with power tools and in a standing position for extended periods.
