About the Department

Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month Director of Trades and Industry. The Director of Trades and Industry will oversee a broad portfolio of credit and workforce training programs, providing strategic leadership to support and promote workforce development within the college’s service area. This role is responsible for the comprehensive planning, design, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of all related programs. Position Duties

  • Responsible for leadership, development, coordination, and supervision of credit and workforce training offerings and ensures compliance with accreditation and college requirements. 
  • Oversees the review and evaluation of instructional materials, including syllabi and other documents. Program areas include construction trades, automotive, diesel, and workforce training certifications.
  • Responsibility and supervision of various training programs functions; determine accuracy of all class records required of instructors, provide necessary assistance in preparing course outlines and objectives in areas of instruction, interview prospective instructors and provide appropriate supervision and ensure that certifications are properly recorded and issued.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate, through subordinate-level staff, related credit, and workforce training programs; assign projects and programmatic areas of responsibility; review and evaluate work methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  • Respond to and resolve or supervise others in doing so, difficult and sensitive student inquiries and complaints, and counsel students as needed.
  • Review and assist in developing promotional materials required by the workforce program area.
  • Manages and evaluates FTE generation and adjunct course loads.
  • Ensures that active and qualified advisory boards function and help assess program quality and determine community needs.
  • Conducts a needs assessment with employers and converts them into training opportunities.
  • Assists with identifying processes that foster student learning, effective teaching, and meaningful curriculum for workforce training programs, resulting in achievement of identified outcomes.
  • Effectively manages the allocation of resources for credit and workforce programs, including budget development and oversight.
  • Pursues resource development activities, including alternative funding sources.
  • Maintains currency with local, state, and federal guidelines for all assigned program areas.
  • Facilitates processes that ensure all policies and procedures for internal and external auditing plans are met.
  • Assist with submission of reports as required by the institution, state, and federal agencies.
  • Serves on committees, boards and task forces as assigned, including for the College or the local service area.
  • Attends required campus events including graduation, professional development, and employee meetings. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree with major course work in business management or related fields Preferred: Master’s degree


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • A minimum of five (5) years of managerial or administrative experience, including supervision of others. Preferred: Experience in multiple areas of Workforce and Continuing Education
  • Computer expertise in word processing, spreadsheets, and data analysis. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.  and Curriculum training programs. 
  • Knowledge of Colleague
  • Budgeting experience.

Other Qualifications

Work is carried out in a standard heated and air-conditioned area. There will be frequent interruptions both from students and the public. Some evening work may be required.
