Job Summary
The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is a parent or guardian with lived experience of raising a child with emotional, behavioral, mental health, developmental or other health challenges and uses that experience to offer support through a peer relationship. The FSS role is to support the parent/guardian, help them to engage in the programs in which they are enrolled, and actively participate on their team and/or treatment process and make informed decisions that drive the process. The FSS uses personal and professional life experience to help parents in navigating systems and to amplify parent/caregiver voice, choice and involvement. The FSS will work alongside our Wraparound and Mobile Response Stabilization Services (“MRSS”, previously Crisis and Transition Services) teams to support the unique needs of these families by using consistent and unified principles of the Family Support practice and competencies. The FSS specializes in supporting the parent/guardian and will work closely with the Youth Partner who specializes in supporting the youth.
The FSS will work as part of the Children and Family team within the Behavioral Health Department. This position will be housed in the Children and Family building on Research Way in Corvallis, however much of this work will be conducted in the community (homes, schools, and other community locations determined by family preference). This position will work collaboratively with both our internal interdisciplinary team as well as with our external community partners. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has their own experience navigating child-serving systems (DHS, Developmental Diversity, Juvenile Justice Department, School systems [IEP or 504 process], housing entities, foster system, etc.) and is willing to share with and support another parent or guardian who is currently navigating those same systems. If you are someone who fits this description and are also dependable, creative, flexible, a team player, an advocate, and have the ability to manage your own schedule--please apply!
