Job Summary

Note: This position will be 3 months in duration

UCSF Health’s Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COA) to join our world-class eye care team. In this role, you’ll work directly with patients and providers, performing diagnostic testing, preparing patients for exams, and ensuring smooth clinic operations. This is an excellent opportunity to grow your skills in an academic medical center while supporting a variety of subspecialties including retina, cornea, glaucoma, pediatrics, and more.

What You’ll Do:
  • Perform patient intake, medical history, visual assessments, and ophthalmic testing
  • Support ophthalmologists and optometrists during patient exams
  • Administer eye drops and prepare pre-operative paperwork
  • Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment (e.g., tonometry, visual fields, topography)
  • Ensure clinic areas are organized, stocked, and safe for patients and staff
  • Participate in training, performance improvement projects, and team meetings
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
