Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a compassionate, creative, and highly qualified Life Enrichment Coordinator to join our team full-time in delivering exceptional care and meaningful experiences for our residents. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior living environments - such as long-term care, assisted living, or memory support - and a genuine passion for enriching the lives of older adults.


The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible with helping to design, organize, and lead a wide range of therapeutic and recreational activities aimed at enhancing the overall well-being of residents across our Health Services departments including Healthcare, Assisted Living, and Memory Support. This position is essential in fostering residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, and social health. The Coordinator will develop a vibrant schedule of events and activities that offer opportunities for social interaction, learning, physical fitness, creative expression, and meaningful connections.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out program duties as directed by the Life Enrichment Manager or Supervisor.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and oversee therapeutic recreational activities for residents, including evenings and weekends.
  • Conduct and complete all required assessments in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, and organizational policies - this includes, but is not limited to, activity assessments and Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of residents’ activity progress in their charts, following established documentation protocols.
  • Collaborate with other staff to coordinate the scheduling of events and facility use. Ensure activity calendars are posted on all units and distributed to residents.
  • Support the planning, organization, and facilitation of various resident committees as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Safely transport residents to and from offsite activities.
  • This position reports directly to the Life Enrichment Manager and does not include supervisory responsibilities over other staff members.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience working with the elderly population.
  • Certified Activity Professional or equivalent certification preferred; Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) may be considered.
  • Current Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.
  • Valid Virginia (VA) driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required; CDL preferred.
  • Strong literacy and communication skills, with the ability to read, write, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate effectively.
  • Proven ability to interact with elderly individuals in a courteous, friendly, and productive manner, demonstrating compassion, patience, flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Committed to upholding residents’ rights and privacy, consistently demonstrating integrity and discretion in all interactions and in handling health-related information.
  • Ability to evaluate individual resident needs and follow safe and effective health and wellness program guidelines.
  • Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and a genuine motivation to work with older adults.
  • Delivers service excellence through daily interactions; skilled in both active listening and public speaking.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Adheres to all safety protocols and maintains high standards of hygiene and sanitation.
  • Proficient in the use of relevant computer software and resident management databases.
