Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and/or support as required to the team and clients in a timely and cost-effective basis
- Defending public liability claims for damages for personal injury in negligence and under the Occupiers’ Liability Acts
- Defending personal injury claims brought under the Highways Act 1980
- Defending employer liability claims for damages for personal injury and industrial disease (predominantly asbestos-related illnesses and noise-induced hearing loss)
- Conducting litigation in the County Court and High Court and compliance with court directions
- Conducting claim investigations and attending site visits
- Determining appropriate defence strategies
- Advising on liability, quantum and evidence
- Drafting statements of case, disclosure lists, witness statements, notices of applications, court orders and instructions to counsel and experts
- Quantum assessments and drafting counter schedules of loss
- Undertaking settlement negotiations
- Attending case management conferences, settlement meetings, and court hearings as required
- Liaising with clients, counsel, experts, and other stakeholders to progress claims effectively
- Advising on fixed recoverable costs and assessed costs
- Supporting senior fee earners on high-value, multi-track and complex litigation as required
- Complying with internal procedures, service standards, and regulatory requirements
- Engagement in new business development activities, with support of senior team members.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified Solicitor or FCILEX
- 2-5 years PQE of defendant personal injury claims/litigation within a defendant firm or insurance environment
- Solid understanding of relevant Pre Action Protocols and Civil Procedure Rules and litigation process
- Ability to manage complex caseloads, prioritise workloads and work under pressure
- Ability to communicate confidently with clients and all department levels across the Firm
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and case management abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commercial awareness and client-focused approach
- Highly attentive to detail and accuracy
- Computer literate – Word/Excel/time recording system
- Projects a professional image at all times.

- 35 hour working week - Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
