A shop / maintenance assistant performs basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including fueling, checking fluids and tire pressure, and performing basic safety checks. They also assist mechanics with more complex repairs, maintain equipment readiness, and ensure the cleanliness of facilities.
Calificaciones:- A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Prior experience in fueling or a related maintenance field is often preferred.
- Knowledge of basic automotive or equipment maintenance, including how to use common tools.
- Ability to work effectively and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
- Posses an active / valid Transportation Workers Identification Credential card.
- Must have Driver’s License w/ acceptable driving record.
- Dependable mode of transportation to and from work
- Must be willing to travel, as needed.
Work Environment / Conditions
- May work in a shop environment, outdoors, or in a yard.
- Potential exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, and other chemicals.
- Often requires flexible scheduling to meet operational needs and may involve being on-call during emergencies. Willingness to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Physical Requirements
- The employee occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, bend, squat, reach and twist.
- The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
- The employee is continuously required to sit (while driving), grasp and exercise eye-hand coordination and eye hand-foot coordination and finger dexterity.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust as needed.
- Fuel vehicles and equipment, check and maintain various fluid levels (Fuel, oil, transmission, coolant, etc.), and perform basic fluid analysis.
- Check and maintain tire pressure, replace basic parts like wipers and light bulbs, and help with preventative maintenance inspections.
- Support skilled mechanics with maintenance and repairs, which may include tasks such as lubrication, oil changes, and helping with safety inspections.
- Keep work areas clean and free of debris, including cleaning equipment, trailers, and parking lots.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of fuel usage, maintenance performed, and inventory.
- Adhere to strict safety procedures and regulations, participate in safety training, and help maintain a safe working environment.
